How come?

Today's idom is:

How come....?

This is just another way of saying why. It is used in conversations quite often.

Example 1.

A: How come  you aren't working today? (Why aren't you working today?)

B: I'm feeling a little under the weather. ( to feel under the weather = to feel sick)

Example 2.

A: I'm not going to soccer practice tonight.

B: How come? You love soccer, don't you? (Why? You love soccer, don't you?)

A: Yes, but I have too much homework.
