That came out of the blue!

Today's idiom is:


to come out of the blue

This idiom is used when something is unexpected or by surprise.


Example 1


A: Did you know you were being considered for a scholarship?

B: I had no idea. It came out of the blue.


Example 2


A: Who would have thought that terrible film would win an oscar.

B: I know. It came totally out of the blue.
